Just thought I'd remind everyone a day early to be sure to crank this absolute gem of a performance. No point mentioning highlights. This 46 minute masterpiece is a highlight of all of 1968.

Sadly the Schoolgirl is cut from the CM upgrade, but you can check out a different source to hear it.

the unique and beautiful thing about '68 GD is that, by loving it, one never needs to apologize, it's a year that is cool without even trying, without either pretense or excuse; peak acid Dead, by which all other years pale in comparison

Viola > TIFTOO > Clementine > Schoolgirl ... what's not to love?

The music performed on this tour is simply mind blowing, both in its intensity and sophistication. Every note of it...

"On a roll, the band returned to Portland to play two nights at the Crystal Ballroom, the local version of the Fillmore or Avalon. The Crystal was an old-time dance hall with a sprung floor built on ball bearings, and it, too, had been booked in the early sixties by the Fillmore's Charles Sullivan with soul artists like James Brown and Marvin Gaye. Open as a "hippie" scene only from January 1967 to July 1968, the Crystal's two Quick/Dead shows were among the high points in the room's history. The Dead enjoyed themselves, too; Garcia left the box office lady a joint, which she thought was her best tip ever, even though she didn't smoke"

That's what I like...never having to apologize for the band I promote.

Really explains a lot about me, eh?

How cool is that. Sums up the year quite well.

Well said! There's nothing like 1968 GD. '69 is amazing too, but with the more polished performances in '69, the raw intensity started to drop off a bit as well. All of 1968 is brimming with explosive, creative energy. Of every year, 1968 will most frequently strip away the paint on your walls.

Nice deniro! The Viola Lee and clementine from this performance are both contenders for best ever ( though the clementine really doesn't have a whole lot of competition - Clem fans should check out 1/23/68 for a performance that defiantly rivals this one). This show is easily a top 10 of 1968 and one of my absolute favorite shows in my collection...

Thanks for the heads up. I always like a good Clementine and I love this show. I'll be firing it up tomorrow.
